A consortium of Budimex and KZN Rail has signed a contract with the Małopolskie Railways for the construction and equipping technical facilities for rolling stock operation in Kraków. The task will be carried out under the “design and build” formula. The completion date is scheduled 18 months from the date of signing the contract.
As part of the contract, a railroad hall measuring approximately 36 x 141 m will be built on a 3.38 hectare site.
The building will be divided into four zones, which will include a workshop and repair area, office and amenities, a warehouse and a rolling stock washing facility. As per the design, the hall will house the necessary equipment and, among others, water supply installations, as well as sanitary, central heating and air conditioning systems. An industrial wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of about 5 dm3/s is planned to be built in the immediate vicinity of the washing station.
The control command and signaling network as well as the power and telecommunications networks will be modernized as part of the project. KZN Rail will also be responsible for the alteration of the entire track system, the catenary, and the installation of 16 turnouts, which will allow trains to move smoothly along the entire siding.
