Renovation of the Tram Tracks and Tram Stop Platforms at Zawisza Square in Warsaw

As part of the project "Renovation of the Tram Tracks and Tram Stop Platforms at Zawisza Square in Warsaw," KZN Rail Sp. z o.o. carried out comprehensive tram track and road construction works for Warsaw Trams.

The main reconstruction works at the junction were completed in three phases between 7 July and 10 August 2025. The use of an innovative technology based on large-format precast concrete slabs manufactured by KZN Contrack reduced the traffic closure period to just five weeks. By comparison, conventional cast-in-place concrete technology would have required a closure of at least three months.

Scope of Works

Tram Track Works (total length: 748 track metres)

• Removal of the existing tram tracks – 748 track metres
• Replacement of the track substructure – 2,262 m²
• Installation of large-format precast turnout slabs – 797.2 m²
• Installation of large-format precast track slabs – 786.3 m²
• Construction of ballastless tram track – 636 track metres
• Construction of ballasted tram track – 112 track metres
• Installation of tram turnouts – 4 sets
• Installation of rail lubrication systems – 4 sets
• Replacement of the turnout control and heating systems – 4 sets
• Restoration of asphalt pavement adjacent to the tram tracks – 323.2 m²
• Construction of the tram track drainage system

Tram Stop Platform Works

• Installation of new protective safety barriers – 171 linear metres
• Renovation of three tram stop platforms: Zawisza Square 05, 06 and 08

Pedestrian and Cycle Infrastructure

• Preparation of design documentation for the replacement of pedestrian and cycleway surfaces
• Renovation of pedestrian walkways at each approach to the junction
• Renovation of the cycle path on the Grójecka Street approach
• Supply and placement of topsoil for newly constructed green areas
