As part of the comprehensive alteration of the Katowice Szopienice Północne station, we performed the demolition of the old track infrastructure along with the catenary and control command and signaling equipment, as well as the old viaduct over Lwowska Street in Katowice. We carried out groundworks, along with reinforcement of the subgrade by constructing an aggregate subballast and stabilizing the soil with cement, and laid 7.871 km of new permanent way along with 24 turnouts. A new catenary has been constructed along the entire section of works, and new control command and signaling equipment has been installed. We built a new viaduct over Lwowska Street and rebuilt the rail-road crossing on Le Ronda Street, changing its category from A to B. We built a new KSz dispatching signal box, which took over traffic control at the station and adjacent routes. After the new signal box and computer control command and signaling equipment was put into operation, the four old signal boxes at the Katowice Szopienice Północne and Katowice Dąbrówka Mała stations were decommissioned. In the vicinity of residential buildings, we also constructed an acoustic baffle at km 1,092–1,202 of LK 161. All the works have been carried out with railway traffic maintained.
