European Funds for the project entitled: “Increasing the innovativeness of KZN Rail sp. z o.o. through the implementation of comprehensive and strategically consistent modules for company development, such as R&D and innovation deployment, by developing and implementing a novel technology for the production, logistics, installation and maintenance of prefabricated rail-road level crossings, as well as improving the company’s and production process energy efficiency through the installation of photovoltaics under the Green Module,” implemented under the European Funds for a Modern Economy Programme.
The subject of the project is to conduct development works aimed at elaborating an innovative technology for the production, logistics, installation and maintenance of prefabricated rail-road level crossings.
The main objective of the project is to develop a unique prefabrication and rapid installation technology for level crossing slabs, distinguished in particular by the ability to produce long, prestressed concrete prefabricated rail-road level crossings including a transition zone. Additionally, the project assumes the implementation of the innovative solution developed under the R&D module into production operations, as well as an increase in energy efficiency in KZN Rail Sp. z o.o.’s manufacturing process through a higher share of renewable energy generation for production purposes.
The scope of the undertaking covers R&D works (R&D Module) and their implementation in the Applicant’s business operations (Innovation Deployment Module), together with energy efficiency improvements through the purchase of a photovoltaic installation and charging stations (Green Module). The project includes the following tasks:
-
Task 1 R&D_1 – Development of production and logistics technology for an innovative crossing slab structure, together with installation technology.
-
Task 2 R&D_2 – Development of slab adjustment technology for prefabricated rail-road level crossings.
-
Task 3 R&D_3 – Intelligent system for improving safety at rail-road level crossings, including the use of environmentally friendly materials.
-
Task 4 ID – Purchase of fixed assets enabling the implementation of development works’ results in KZN Rail’s business operations.
-
Task 5 GM – Purchase and installation of a photovoltaic system enabling the implementation of development works’ results in KZN Rail’s business operations, including energy storage systems.
-
Task 6 – Indirect costs.
As a result of applying the above technology, a prototype of a rail-road level crossing will be developed, including transition zones and safety-enhancing elements, which will be a breakthrough on both the Polish and international markets. During the development works, an advanced production line will be built, enabling the production of prototype prefabricated slabs. The final stage will involve the construction of a technology demonstrator under real-life conditions to verify compliance with the assumptions adopted at the conceptual and design stages. The Applicant’s offer will be expanded to include a product currently unavailable on the market.
Measurable results of the project include:
-
Revenues from the sale of new or improved products/services: PLN 108,000,000.00
-
Enterprises introducing product or process innovations: 1
-
Number of implemented R&D results: 1
-
Number of introduced product innovations: 1
-
Number of pro-environmental initiatives: 1
-
Private investments complementing public support (including grants, financial instruments): PLN 9,631,197.48
-
Amount of saved electricity – Baseline value: 37.0000 MWh, Target value: 0.0000 MWh
-
Large-size crossing slab adapted to transition zone installation – Baseline value: 15.0000 kN/m, Target value: 18.0000 kN/m
The project is undertaken with the railway network managers’ market in mind (the project’s target group), where a clear trend towards optimizing construction costs and execution time is observed.
